Ebola | Natural Prevention

Did you know that Ebola has killed more victims than any epidemic recorded in history? According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the total number of cases is about 25,263 with 10,477 deaths in one year’s time since the outbreak was first reported. Additionally, in 2000 Paul Salopek from the Tribune stated that there is no known cure or effective treatment for Ebola. Salopek also reported that Ebola swiftly kills up to 90% of its victims.
Epidemic Spreading Quickly per Country and Cases are Rising
– March 25, 2014: In four southeastern districts, 86 suspected cases including 59 deaths. There are suspected cases in the neighboring countries of Sierra Leone and Liberia (being investigated). In May 2014, there was an outbreak in Guinea’s capital Conakry (population around two million). On May 28, the total cases reported extended to 281 cases with 186 deaths.
– The epidemic spread to Liberia by mid April 2014 and to the capital Monrovia by mid-June. By July 17, suspected cases rose to 442. By July 20, Ebola spread to, Sierra Leone and to the capital Freetown in late July.
– July 25, 2014: The first death recorded in Nigeria. On September 22, the WHO reported 20 cases and 8 deaths. However, on October 20 the WHO representative for Nigeria stated that there were no new active cases.
– Senegal reports their first case on August 29th, 2014. The victim was identified as a Guinean national who was exposed to the virus. The victim was under observation, but had traveled to Dakar by road that had fallen sick after arrival. This person consequently recovered. The WHO officially affirmed that the outbreak in Senegal had ended (October 17, 2014).
– August and September 2014: In Liberia, two Spanish health care workers contracted Ebola. They were taken to Spain for treatment but both died. By October, a nurse assistant was diagnosed with Ebola and was declared disease-free on October 19, 2014. This was the first case recorded outside of Africa.
– September 30, 2014: The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced the first case of Ebola. A man from Liberian traveled to Texas to be with his family. He died October 8, 2014. The two nurses who cared for the patient also contracted the disease. Both nurses recovered and were announced Ebola-free on October 27, 2014.
– October 23, 2014: The first case of Ebola is reported in Mali. There was also another outbreak in November with 7 reported cases and 5 deaths in Bamako. These two cases were Not connected!
There are also countries with limited local cases such as the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
What is Ebola?
There are five strains of the virus classified in the genus Ebolavirus. Four of the five strains are deadly.
After the virus enters the body, it starts killing cells. Some cells even burst and explode!
Ebola destroys the immune system by causing extreme bleeding internally and thus damages almost every organ.
You can get Ebola only from direct contact of body fluids or blood from a person who is infected. Body fluids that may contain the Ebola viruses include saliva, mucus, sweat, tears, breast milk, vomit, feces, urine and semen. As well, the Ebola virus may be able live up to 8 weeks in semen after recovery, which could lead to infections through sexual intercourse.
In addition, you can get Ebola by touching contaminated needles or surfaces. However, specialists report that you cannot get the disease from water, air or from food. Furthermore, if a person has Ebola but doesn’t have any symptoms, they cannot spread the disease. As of yet, there have not been any reports that the virus can be spread by mosquitoes or other insects. has
The first onset of symptoms is similar to the flu. Generally, symptoms show up 2 to 21 days after a person is infected, such as:
- High fever
- Loss of appetite
- Joint and muscle aches
- Scratchy and sore throat
- Headaches and migraines
- Abdominal cramps and pain
- Unexplained hemorrhage (bruising or bleeding)
Symptoms worsen as the disease progresses including bleeding internally, from the ears, eyes and nostrils. Some people will cough up blood, vomit, get a rash and have bloody diarrhea.
The Ebola virus disease (EVD) has a very high risk of death in people who get infected. In fact, death rates vary from 25% to 90%. The average risk of death for people infected is 50% (September 2014). The highest risk was reported in the 2002–2003 Republic of the Congo outbreak at 90%. Generally death occurs 6-16 days after symptoms appear. Death is generally due to low blood pressure from fluid loss. The prevention of dehydration is said to lower the risk of death.
Diagnosis, Modern Treatment & Prevention
Generally, you cannot tell if you have Ebola with just the symptoms. First, physicians will rule out other diseases like malaria or cholera with testing. Ebola can typically be diagnosed with tissue and blood tests. If you are diagnosed with Ebola, you are immediately quarantined to prevent spread of the disease.
Although there is no cure for Ebola, treatment can include an experimental serum that is said to destroy infected cells. According to an article on WebMD, the serum is called ZMapp. It was developed by the biotech firm Mapp Biopharmaceutical Inc., based in San Diego. Evidently, ZMapp is grown in specially modified leaves of tobacco and is comprised of three chimeric (fusion proteins) monoclonal antibodies. It is manufactured in the tobacco plant Nicotiana benthamiana in the bioproduction process known as “pharming” by Kentucky BioProcessing, a subsidiary of Reynolds American. However, the drug has not been tested enough to be considered safe, effective or to be administered on the market.
Pharming refers to the use of genetic engineering to insert genes that code for pharmaceuticals into plants or animals that do not have those genes. In other words, pharming is another word for GMO. If you would like to know more about GMO’s see October is Non-GMO Month
Aside from ZMapp, Ebola symptoms are only managed as follows:
- Blood transfusions
- Treatment for infections
- Blood pressure medication
- Electrolytes and fluids (IV’s)
So, there really is No modern medicine for Ebola. The medications given are to reduce symptoms such as high fever, maintain blood pressure and prevent bleeding. In the face of all the efforts, more than 50% of Ebola victims still lose their lives from this horrific virus.
Researchers state that the best protection against Ebola is to not travel to regions where the virus is found. As well, stay away from people who are infected with the disease. Health care providers should always wear gloves, goggles and masks when they are in contact with people who are infected.
Okay, the Ebola virus was first discovered during two 1976 outbreaks in Africa. The disease was named after the Ebola River, which is close to one of the villages in the Democratic Republic of Congo where the disease first appeared.
Recovery from the virus depends upon a person’s immune response! People who actually survive Ebola develop antibodies that may last 10 years or possibly longer. However, it hasn’t been determined if a person can get infected with a different species of Ebola. Some people who have recovered from the virus have long-term issues like vision and joint problems.
What is known is that Ebola attacks the immune cells. This in turn triggers your immune system to produce massive amounts of inflammatory molecules. This is what makes the blood vessels burst and explode thus reducing your blood pressure to dangerous levels. In itself, it can cause multiple vital organ failure.
It is said that people who are malnourished are more susceptible to Ebola. This is because the immune system is lowered due to the lack of essential nutrients. There are a few studies that support the use of nutrient rich foods to fight pathogens. As well, optimum cellular respiration and nutritional sufficiency are vital in how well a cell can remove toxins from its walls.
